A Trip to Old Mountain Farm
5/12/11: My good friend (and partner in crime according to our husbands) Kristin Cornwell of Babel Brook Acres and I headed out on our trip to Old Mountain Farm at 6am on Thursday morning and after briefly stopping in Negaunee Michigan, New York, and New Hampshire to drop off goats, we finally arrived at Old Mountain Farm in Cape Neddick, Maine around 9:30pm on Friday. Cheryle & Wyl had graciously offered to let us stay at her home and what a wonderful property and home she has! Her herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats is absolutely beautiful but just as impressive as her animals was Cheryle's wealth of knowledge, her willingness to share & explain her management practices, and her attention to detail in her herd's health records. We spent all of Saturday morning and much of the afternoon looking at animals, pumping Cheryle for information, and watching as her vet thoroughly checked over the animals we had chosen. Cheryle follows strict biosecurity measures which gave us the utmost confidence in our purchases and boy did we purchase:) Our husbands may never let us travel to look at goats again ...lol!
I highly recommend contacting Cheryle about stopping for a farm tour if you ever are in the vicinity as it is well worth the time.
